Next is what?

Hello again! Seeing the title, don't think its a samsung add :) . This post is to describe Shubodaya's next event. Before that, let us know the current happenings. We are happy to say that Shubodaya's operations are going on well. We are going to PUSH regularly and spend around 3-5 hours with the children. We are creating interest among the students to learn English and Maths by using slideshows, games and videos that involve the subject of the day. For example, Pradeep illustrated "O God beautiful" poem, [the one which children in "Pasanga" film learn in the early morning :)] in a slideshow with the pictures such as Forest, Mountain, River etc. It created a difference in the 6th std children's grasping of the subject, which was palpable when the children said the next week that Yasoda (6th std girl in PUSH) got appreciation from her teacher in the school for telling the poem without any mistake. In the government school in which the children are studying, they will not have an oppurtunity to see such slideshows and so they show more interest on learning through such mediums. We are thinking to create slideshows/videos for each chapter in the english subject book so that children who currently hate english, can easily learn the subject. Similarly, we are thinking of mathematical games for each chapter in the maths subject.

While this activity is going on regularly on each saturday, some Shubodayans are eager to conduct events. We, Shubodayans ask ourselves - Next is what? And yes - we have come up with the proposal for the next event. Its going to be the Indian Independence day celebration in PUSH on Aug 15th. Remember those school days when your teachers organized competitions in the week before the Independence day? Similarly, we, Shubodayans are planning to organize competitions and distribute the prizes on Aug 15th in PUSH. But what competition shall we conduct? There comes the question. It can be drawing or essay writing or oratorical or if you can come with a new competition, please suggest us. It would be nice if this competition is based on patriotism. Please pour in your thoughts as comments in this blog about the concept and way to organize the competition!!! Shubodaya is eagerly waiting for your response.

  1. Nice write up, but guys we have many people around the globe seeing this blog and its update, in the above write up you have said about "Pasanga" it is nothing but a Tamil Movie released in India. It has the concept of childrens mentality towards the copetetive world. There is a scene in that movie where guys use to read the poem "O God Beautiful" very loudly. I suppose it is what been mentioned above :-) the same was the first lesson from Shubodaya to Kids.

Saying that I am the one who is teaching English subjects to the guys in PUSH as of now, with the innovative approch of teaching English through pictorial representation kids are able to imbibe the meaning of each word very easily. All the prose and poem are now converted to Slides and revision test are done non - formally through Activity based learning. Thus without fear guys are approching their test, even with out knowing that they are involved in a kind of test.

As per the above write up, not only Yesoda but also Prem and Bhavani (6th std) has got appreciation from their school teachers, I can really say, time is not at all a barrier for education. Though we spend only 3 to 5 hours a week we make sure, giving a quality education which students need not have to revice again as we are stimulating both side of there brains with education and activity with their cent percent heartly dedication and interest.

Saying that we are happy to know about Independence day celibration, Following are the Copetetions I can suggest:

    1. Skit performance Competition.
    2. Calligraphy Competion - Art of writing
    3. Rangoli Competition

    All the best guys.

  3. Sruthi's idea is really good. It can be conducted in tamil this time.
I suggest 2 competitions for different age groups - for 6th std+ students, shall we have quiz about India's national symbols, important dates and important leaders in Indian history. It can be a written/stage quiz. And for other younger children, shall we have painting competition. - we shall provide figures that depicts symbols of India - Tiger, Hockey etc.

@Pradeep : skit is also a very good idea. But shall we have this as a program for the day instead of competition. Say, we can ask 8std + guys to enact Vaanji naathan/Bhagath singh stories

  4. @Posted from mail on behalf of Dinesh Lakshmanan:

Your initiative is good. Whatever competition you organize, it would be nice if you give prize to all. This will increase participation next time.

Everything is good!!! To add on to that the simple competition which comes to my mind is " Guest a Minute" Preparation might take time, if you guys decide to do this, let me know I will try to collect material.

    About the Game:
    > Take 10 to 20 know and unknown freedom fighters, gather picture, information or probably video about them.

    > Put the pictures in box, each kid has to select a picture and speak about them for a minute. If the kid doesn't know it passes to group, and who ever want can answer.

    > After answering provide the kid with useful gift, then show a short video about that freedom fighter if we have one or just talk about that person and enlighten them about the personality.

    > Our main aim should be like, at the end of the show, kids has to know a unique quality of freedom fighters which we have shown.

  9. Thanks for your writeup Balajee. We first thank your effort to comment on our Blog. All ideas given by you will suit well. But there are few ideas in you which is little difficult to manage:

    1. Fancy Dress > Children in Orphanage have little exposure out side world. Though if we can fund on the preparations they take for make-up, still there should be some person behind them to guide.

Other than this all other ideas will really workout, we will make sure to take up the best of it which will suit there potential. Follow our blog for more updates, thanks again Balajee.
